What is the best time to use the washing machine to save energy at home?

The washing machine is one of the most important appliances in any home. What is the best time to use it and save electricity? The washing machine is perhaps the indispensable appliance in any home, capable of saving time, effort and even money thanks to its energy efficiency programs. But, far beyond this, the time at which you prefer to use it is also influential.

For this reason, some users tend to adapt their routines with the aim of spending less and reducing the cost of electricity bills considerably. On the other hand, many people do not know what the ideal times are to achieve this goal.

The best times to save electricity by using the washing machine

Excluding weekends and public holidays, i.e. Monday to Friday, experts say that the time slot that demands the most electricity is between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Taking this into account, the most affordable option for using the washing machine is in the early morning or at dawn: washing from midnight to 8 a.m. is an interesting way to save money.

If you prefer not to do it at these times, you can use the so-called “even hours”, which are those that represent an average level of electricity consumption.

According to the experts at Samsung, these occur in three different time slots in which you can use the washing machine: the first, from 8:00 to 10:00 in the morning; the second, from 14:00 to 18:00 in the afternoon and, finally, from 22:00 to 00:00 at night.

As you can see, this is a great option, although it is not the most suitable if you want to save as much electricity consumption as possible through your washing machine.

Other tips when using the washing machine

Leaving aside the schedule, the other tips that are presented when it comes to saving money through the washing machine are the ones shown below:

  • Filling the washing machine: Make the most of the washing machine’s capacity by putting in full loads.
  • Using smart programs: Some programs detect the amount of laundry and adjust the water level and washing time.
  • Wash on a cold setting: Higher temperatures consume more energy.
  • Use less detergent: Excess detergent requires more rinsing and increases water and electricity consumption.
  • Sort your clothes by color and type of fabric: This way you make the most of each wash cycle.
  • Deep clean the washing machine: Every three or four months, clean the filter, as it accumulates limescale, mold and even small objects.
  • Turn off and unplug the washing machine: Don’t forget to turn it off and unplug it when you’re finished using it.
