With summer just around the corner, it’s time to get your garden and patio ready. One of the most annoying challenges in many gardens is moss, which thrives in damp and shady areas. It can make surfaces slippery and dangerous – but now experts have revealed a surprising solution that costs no more than around £20. This is according to The Mirror.
According to Net Mums, cola is an effective remedy for moss. It may sound unlikely, but the popular soft drink contains phosphoric acid, which helps break down moss. By pouring cola directly onto the green patches, you can start a slow but effective fight against the problem.
This method works especially well if you do it on a sunny day in the morning. This gives the soda time to dry into the moss and start the decomposition process. After a few days, when the moss changes color to brown, you can remove it with a stiff broom and rinse the area with a garden hose.
Alternatively, you can also use household vinegar or liquid dishwashing detergent – both of which are also natural and cheap ways to fight moss.
The experts emphasize the importance of addressing the problem now that the weather has warmed up. A well-maintained, moss-free patio is not only more attractive, it’s also much safer to walk on – and taking action now can prevent moss from taking over again in the wetter fall and winter months.
So next time you find yourself with half a bottle of cola in your hand, consider using the rest as a gardening product – and avoid slippery tiles and expensive chemicals.
